At the September 20, 2018 TILG meeting the annual TILG EEO-AA Practitioner Award was presented to Carrie Hesse, PHR, SHRM-CP. She was recognized as an outstanding TILG member for the excellent contributions she has made in the areas of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action programs.
Carrie Hesse is the HR Governance Operations Consultant for First Citizens Bank, a position she has held since January 2010. In this position, she serves as the Affirmative Action subject matter expert and has responsibility for the annual development and implementation of the Bank’s 15 AAPs. Ms. Hesse provides training and ongoing consultation to the Bank’s HR Business Partners and Talent Acquisition Consultants to ensure delivery of AA results and strategy execution bank-wide. In 2018, Ms. Hesse successfully created and implemented a new data visualization tool to visually communicate the AA results and driving factors which greatly improved the ability of the HR Business Partners and business unit managers to analyze and understand the results. In addition to AA plan creation and ongoing compliance consultation, Ms. Hesse manages the Bank’s pay equity initiatives, Veteran’s recognition efforts, and monitors OFCCP regulatory changes.
Ms. Hesse is part of the Bank’s HR Analytics project team which focuses on advancing the Bank’s use of human capital metrics and analytics to support strategic business decisions by identifying trends, benchmarking, and understanding causation and relationships. She is currently enrolled in the Business Analytics certification program at Wake Technical Community College with an expected completion date of Fall 2020. Ms. Hesse also focuses on creating and testing HR internal controls designed to identify and mitigate human capital related risk and operational deficiencies. She was instrumental in the creation of the Bank’s HR Reference Documents Management program which governs the creation and publication of shared internal HR reference documents to ensure consistency in HR practices and procedures and compliance with Bank policies and applicable laws. Ms. Hesse also has responsibility for researching and assessing the impact of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and she participates on various project teams focused on the improvement of HR systems and operational efficiencies.
Ms. Hesse is the current Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Triangle Industry Liaison Group (TILG). She has given 12 years of service to the Board and its membership by working to provide quality AA, Equal Opportunity, and Diversity/Inclusion educational programs to federal contractor employers in the Triangle area. TILG provides nationally-known experts at its local level meetings and boasts one of the largest memberships nationwide. Ms. Hesse joined the Board in 2006 and served as a Director responsible for membership outreach, registration, and website updates until 2009. In 2011, Ms. Hesse rejoined the Board as a Director and became Secretary in 2012. In 2013, she was elected to serve as Vice President and was instrumental in updating the Board’s Bylaws to allow EO/AA Consultants to serve as Officers of the Board and for implementing a new email system for TILG communications. Ms. Hesse served consecutive terms in 2014 and 2015 as Board President. During her time as President, the Board contributed financial support to the 2016 National Industry Liaison Group (NILG) Conference hosted by the Charlotte NC ILG. This successful effort has since allowed the Board to send its Board members to the NILG Conference each year, which is a great educational opportunity. In addition, during her Presidency, the Board completely overhauled and upgraded the TILG website, adding much needed functionality to the system.
Ms. Hesse has a BS in Psychology from Virginia Tech with 14 years of experience in EO/AA consulting. She has earned the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), and HCI-Analytics for Talent Management certifications and looks forward to earning two additional Business Analytics certifications.
